Stage 1 of 4
Industry consultation
The NSW Government is committed to delivering the CBD Metro by 2015, with construction commencing in 2010. To make sure this happens, Sydney Metro is consulting with industry and explaining the process to select the builder of the Permanent Route Infastructure (PRI) and the private sector company to run the Integrated Metro Operations (IMO) for Sydney’s first metro line.
Consultations to date
Extensive consultation on delivery strategy options for a metro network for Sydney has already been undertaken with a number of industry sectors including operations and safety, construction, rolling stock, rail systems and procurement packaging.
Two industry forums were held in May and June 2008 and a formal process of one-on-one consultations was conducted between June and September. Advice was sought on operations, safety and design parameters, product information and lead times, standards and specifications, alternative models and packaging, and recommended reference sites and operations.
An international validation and verification inspection also assisted in identifying proven procurement models for a metro network for Sydney.
The outcomes of this consultation demonstrate that the metro concept will be suitable for Sydney and that there are a number of proven systems in operation around the world. There is considerable interest from the international market in the provision of Australia’s first metro and as such this will result in a competitive environment for the procurement of services and systems associated with the CBD Metro.
The findings of the market sounding, industry consultation and the international validation and verification inspection are reflected in the proposed procurement and delivery strategies.
