Sydney Metro

NSW Government

Procurement

Stage 1 of the Sydney Metro network and future extensions will be procured as two separate contracts:

  • the Permanent Route Infrastructure (PRI) contract, comprising the tunnelling, surface civil works, station boxes and caverns
  • the Integrated Metro Operations (IMO) contract, comprising the track, rolling stock, rail systems and station fitout, as well as maintenance and operations.

A three-stage tendering process has now commenced for both contracts.  The three stages are:

  1. Registration
  2. Expression of Interest
  3. Invitation to Tender

In September 2009, Sydney Metro issued the Invitation to Tender for the PRI contract to three shortlisted consortia. Tenders closed in November 2009 and a contract is expected to be awarded in the second quarter of 2010. Construction work is expected to start mid 2010.

For IMO, two consortia have now been shortlisted to bid for the contract.  It is anticipated that the Invitations to Tender will be issued later in the year.
