Our Team
Our team includes specialists from both the public and private sector with a wealth of expertise from a variety of infrastructure projects internationally and within Australia.
Our Acting Chief Executive is Rodd Staples. Rodd has worked in the areas of transport and infrastructure planning, property and project development and has qualifications in engineering and finance. He has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors and has led a range of complex transport and infrastructure programs in NSW, Queensland and Victoria. Rodd joined Sydney Metro in 2008 from the NSW Ministry of Transport where he led the Centre for Transport Planning.
In a first for an Australian transport infrastructure project, a ‘Shadow Operator’ forms part of the Sydney Metro team in order to ensure our technical designers get the system right for the passenger and the future operator. With the Shadow Operator providing operational expertise while the project is in its design stage, we are ensuring that the customer and the operator remain the focus.
Every aspect of the system is subject to scrutiny from the international experts in the Shadow Operator team, who have worked on similar projects in London, Singapore, Brussels, Hong Kong, Texas and Kuala Lumpur.
Our aim
We are working to ensure Sydney is provided with a fast, frequent, reliable and safe transport system that:
- is customer focused
- is fully integrated into its urban context and existing transport infrastructure
- supports the long term competitiveness and attractiveness of Sydney.
Sydney Metro Board
The Sydney Metro Board meets monthly. Mr Simon Lane is Chair of the Board. Ms Carolyn Walsh and Mr Rodd Staples are the members of the Board.
The members of the Audit and Risk Committee are Ms Carolyn Walsh (Chair), Ms Patricia Azarias, Mr Allan Cook and Mr Simon Lane.
